We bought into Anfi in 2000, right at the start of Monte. Why? because it was the most beautifully built, equipped and located resort we had encountered. 18 years of friends, fun and luxury later we reluctantly feel we should move on as we are in our late seventies and have yet to explore England!!

So, what to do if, and it's a big if, Anfi's superb facilities fail to satiate your needs. Our tips.

1. We have usually hired a car and garage it safely at Anfi, as car hire is so reasonable on Gran Canaria and it allows us days out when we fancy.

2. On arrival, usually at lunch time, we have a protracted lunch of Tapas and Sangria and just soak up the Anfi atmosphere. Why? Well we are in Spanish territory and memories come flooding back.

3. Puerto de Morgan is an outstandingly pretty seaside resort, a must for us on every visit, with its many bridges and ubiquitous bougainvillea's.

4. We combine this with a return to our favourite secluded fish restaurant at Playa de Tasarte, where we relax with the waves lapping the rocks beneath us. Our Twingo photo says it all.

5. We love swimming at our favourite Canarian beach, at Amadores, where we always find ample free parking followed by lunch in one of the many restaurants. A stroll along the cliffs side promenade to Puerto Rico completes the day.

6. Some years, we walk inland over the hills to Puerto Rico to visit the closest resort to Anfi. After wandering round this port, beach, parks, and town we take a bus or the glass bottomed ferry boat back to Anfi.

7. Tuesdays usually find us walking along the beach to Arguineguin, to the market and the harbour restaurant.

8. Over 18 years we have had time to visit the capital, Las Palmas, the sand dunes at Maspalomas and many towns and villages in the mountains, all worth doing, always finding an excellent restaurant for lunch.

But at the end of any great day out, best of all is returning to our fantastic apartment at Anfi. After a swim at the excellent Anfi beach, or in one of the many warm pools, we relax on a sun bed soaking up the last hours of sunshine. More relaxing on the balcony with a drink before selecting our restaurant and mingling with people enjoying a balmy evening.

Anfi and Gran Canaria are simply splendid. And it is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye in June this year...

BUT our memories will remain for ever.
