Club Sol y Vista in Gran Canaria’s Puerto Rico resort is well-named for the island’s endless sunshine and the panoramic ocean views from the complex’s restaurant and its bar. With an impressive list of amenities and attractive accommodation, it gives a value for money holiday at less than a stay in a local hotel.

Reviews stress the setting high above Puerto Rico’s harbour and beach, and mention the helpful, friendly staff and the half-hourly shuttle bus to the beach. The apartments are simply but comfortably furnished, and are set surrounding the three swimming pools with their pool bar and shaded seating.

Each apartment has a kitchenette, equipped with all necessities for self-catered meals including a fridge/freezer and microwave oven. The living areas have a satellite TV, cosy seating and direct dial telephones. Every apartment has a terrace with glorious views over the Atlantic Ocean and enjoys cool breezes in the evening.

Onsite activities include squash courts, mini-golf, pool tables and tennis courts, and the complex is quieter in the evenings than other resorts closer to the heart of the buzzing resort town. The only drawback here is that, due to its location, it isn’t suited to those with reduced mobility.

Vibrant Puerto Rico is a modern tourist town with first-class dining shopping and nightlife options, as well as beaches perfect for water sports, fishing and diving trips and a marina packed with yachts. If you’re feeling energetic, there are amazing walking trails through the unspoiled interior countryside.
