We purchased this timeshare in March 1988 and never tired of it. Calahonda is situated on Spain's Costa del Sol and we've had many memorable family holidays there. Sadly, the children have grown up and moved away.

The resort is affiliated to RCI; it is a designated RCI Silver Crown resort, ref: 1878. Weeks for sale are Week 31 and Week 32. These are early August so perfect for school holidays, made affordable with an abundance of flights from UK to Malaga from just about any UK airport.

The apartment is on the first floor, sleeping 6 (2 double bedrooms with privacy and 2 on a convertible sofa bed). Officially, there's 1.5 bathrooms, which translates into a family bathroom and an en-suite to the master bedroom. There's a full kitchen. Within the complex it's close to the reception and other amenities. The south facing balcony provides outdoor eating for all meals, offering a view of one of the swimming pools so that the children can always be in view. In the distance there's a view of the Mediterranean Sea so the balcony is a nice place to be, wine (or beer) in hand, as the sun goes down.

For a quiet holiday you needn't leave the area, but if you prefer to explore then Calahonda is a good base for day trips along the Costa del Sol with plenty of attractions nearby.

Owners benefit from an active Owners Club, which keeps owners in touch with current issues and developments. Membership of the Committee is open to all owners, and the Annual General Meeting is usually held in the UK.

CAR HIRE
The resort is 38km from Malaga airport, about 30/40 minutes' drive along the Autovía A-7 (aka Autovia del Mediterráneo), so hiring a car at the airport is probably a good idea. Again, plenty of choice so prices are competitive.

If you're just wanting to sit by the poolside whilst the children take to the swimming pools, then it may be worthwhile renting a car locally for a few days. Again, there's plenty of choice.

SITE AMENTIES
Enjoy the amenities found within the resort with a choice of two swimming pools, the rooftop sun deck, internet, tennis, fitness area, sauna, and a mini club. For children there's also a playground and games room.

There is an on-site restaurant and bar, which offer some evening entertainment. Several cafes and restaurants are within walking distance, as well as a supermarket and a small shopping centre. A short distance you can enjoy beach activities, water-skiing, windsurfing, boating, and fishing and let's not forget golf which is also available.

WORTH A VISIT
Over the years we've been to most places, so let's start with the Aqua Park (Parque Acuático) in Fuengirola, which you'll see on the drive from airport to resort. A firm favourite with our children. For more cultural destinations there's Gibraltar, Ronda, Estepona, Marbella (fantastic for its posh marina and evening celebrity spotting), Mijas and the underrated city of Malaga, itself worth a visit.

On the eastern side of Malaga there's the resort towns of Nerja, Almunecar and Salobrena; much quieter but it's where the Spanish go for their holidays. Beyond these resorts go inland and there's Granada; a visit to the Alhambra should be a part of every visit to the Costa del Sol.
