We have owned 2 Gold weeks at Marriott's 5 star Marbella Beach resort in Marbella for many years and can recommend it to families of all ages. We decided to sell one of our weeks since we bought a holiday home in the Austrian Alps last year, but still look forward to returning every year to this luxurious resort.

A bit of on-line research will show you that this is one of the flagship Marriott resorts worldwide and certainly deserves it's 5 star status. It is located just east of Marbella and Malaga airport is a very simple 35 to 40 minute drive to the East. The location is perfect, directly next to the sandy beach and within a stone's throw of a number fabulous fish restaurants and a good mix of high quality restaurants offering international cuisine. If you like to eat fresh fish (as we do), want to avoid high rise hotels, fish & chip shops, seedy bars as in other parts of Spain, then this is definitely the place for you!

There is a restaurant on-site, El Med, which serves a very sumptuous buffet breakfast which is not overly priced and usually you can get a breakfast package which brings the price down. There is also a sports bar above reception which is open later in the evening and offers cocktails and informal dining and a beach bar offering small snacks throughout the day.

The 3 bed, 3 bathroom apartment is very large (142m2) and of very high quality, with all the facilities you will ever need. We have travelled extensively worldwide in some exotic locations and the accommodation here is hard to beat. The kitchen is fully equipped and the laundry room in the apartment has a washing machine and dryer. If anything breaks down or is missing, the resort staff are always on hand to help out.

We tend to request an apartment with evening sun so we can enjoy a sundowner on the balcony before heading out for the evening. The balcony is a good size and big enough to accommodate 8 people around a table.

The resort has 24 hour security so you can have the peace of mind to let your kids wander around the resort to play mini tennis, table tennis, badminton, mini golf or just to go to the kids chill-out zone.

There is also a small grocery shop, MarketPlace, on site which has a great selection and not overly priced. There is a large supermarket within 5 minutes drive of the resort.

For those who want to use a holiday to kick-start a healthier lifestyle, the resort offers a fully equipped gym of good size and there are a number of fitness classes available most days. There are several outdoor pools and 2 indoor pools.

Regarding the surrounding area, this is the place to come if you are into golf, as we are. Within 30 minutes drive of the resort there are at least 15 different courses to play. Most courses offer discount packages if you book in advance though the Marriott hotel concierge.

Until now we have only swapped our timeshare once but Interval International is very helpful and the procedure is very straightforward. It is possible to swap this resort with the several thousands available in the Marriott/Interval exchange programme.

There is much more to say about how fabulous this resort is but for us one of the key differentiators has been the quality of the staff and their desire to make sure you have a great holiday experience.
