Canal boat sailing brings a unique perspective to one's busy/hectic lifestyle. Sailing through beautiful countryside allows you to partake on nature from a slow non-intrusive aspect and stopping whenever you want to "refresh yourself."

Whilst you are on the boat whether sailing or moored, people passing on the towpath always seemed to want to talk, and help, especially when we were entering or leaving the locks.

From Alvechurch marina we were surprised at the lovely canal network around Birmingham and the excellent public houses where there always seemed to be a great welcome.

From Blackwater Meadow marina we experienced perhaps the highlight of all our journeys, the canal journey down to Llangollen. We crossed the Pontcysyllt Aqueduct, built in 1805, and still going strong. In Llangollen we bought a ticket for the steam train on the scenic railway to Corwen and admired the old Victorian stations and the excellent fare available there.

We took our two Whippets with us everywhere and they thoroughly enjoyed having a different walk every day. Whilst sailing they loved being on the stern with their lifejackets on.

Sailing on a canal boat may require a deal of patience but it certainly beats the hassle of taking holidays abroad and sometimes requirement for a foreign language.
