Laugharne in South Wales is very easy to reach on good fast roads. This is a town in which Dylan Thomas wrote Under Milk Wood whilst living in the Boathouse with his wife Caitlin and 3 children. Positioned on the banks of the Taf River it is an ancient town with lots of history and once a busy port, established in the 12th century. Laugharne Castle was also established in the 12th century, which in the 20th century underwent considerable archaeological investigation and gradual restoration. Laugharne is now an active community with a good mix of shops and eateries, popular location with writes, artists, anglers and birdwatchers.

Boat trips are available to Caldey Island to visit resident monks in their monastery. The nearest towns are Saundersfoot and Tenby. With nearby attractions of the National Botanic Gardens and the Speed Museum at Pendrine Sands; where Malcolm Campbell set the world land speed record in 1924.
