We love the flexibility of the Diamond Resorts points scheme which works better for us than a timeshare as there are no exchange fees and we have the option, for instance, of one year treating the children and grandchildren to a luxury week abroad in the school holidays (high season) in a 2/3 bedroom apartment and still have enough points left over for a cosy weekend for 2, low season.  Alternatively, away from peak season we can enjoy 2 weeks away for the two of us in a smaller unit.  It's hard to say what our personal favourites are as we have been to so many fabulous places, but in the UK we have some lovely memories of our holidays at the Pine Lake Resort in the Lake District and Woodford Bridge in Devon.   Pine Lake consists of Scandinavian style wooden lodges in a stunning location around a lake and the kids loved all the water sports available as well as enjoying the superb facilities in the health and leisure complex - an excellent base, too, for exploring the Lake District and Yorkshire dales.  Equally as popular was Woodford Bridge, again with excellent leisure facilities and loads to do -  we were particularly impressed with the high standard of the interiors in the two bedroom lodges we stayed in which were beautifully furnished and easy access to some stunning beaches in Devon and Cornwall - great for surfing, too.

Of the European destinations we visited we loved Los Amigos Beach Club on the Costa  Del Sol, where we stayed in a really well equipped  and attractive 3 bedroom apartment, with 2 large swimming pools, great for relaxation but at the same time masses to do including tennis,  mini golf, children's activity programme and lots more.

We also stayed at Garden Lago in Alcudia, Northern Majorca, again great facilities; Alpine Club in Schlaming, Austria - a truly wonderful place to visit any time of the year and great for skiing and Alpen Club located in the Bavarian Alps, with stunning mountain scenery.

Alternatively if you fancy holidaying further afield you can exchange your points and book with Interval International - from the peaceful Rockies to the tropical retreat of Hawaii or the Caribbean to action packed Orlando or Las Vegas.

As an added bonus we have 2600 unused points carried over to 2014, which, for example would almost buy a week for 2 in Normandy in June, plus a long weekend in the UK, low season (3000 points).
