With its well equipped apartments and setting near the harbour and centre of chilled out Vilamoura, the Dom Pedro Portobelo is ideal for quiet holidays in the sun. This is a beautiful part of the Algarve, removed from the excesses of nearby Albufeira and Faro, yet has all the amenities of a modern resort town and is within reach of both.

It is mostly suited to couples, with its 100-plus studios and one-bedroom apartments, though Dom Pedro Portobelo also caters well to families and larger groups and comes with several two-bedroom apartments. These all have a kitchen area and private balcony, many boasting fine sea views over the Atlantic.

The swimming pool here is a big hit and has ample space for sunning. Young families will find a small kid's pool, games room and babysitting service, while golfers will be pleased with the offers available at the 'Golf Desk'.

If you don't fancy cooking, there is a restaurant on-site with attached cocktail bar, along with a bar near the lobby, and a swimming pool. You are also centrally placed for Vilamoura's restaurants and bars--being in the heart of the resort--and the Vilamoura Casino is also close by.

Along with the lively marina area, Vilamoura's beaches are an easy stroll from Dom Pedro Portobelo and there is a section of loungers given over to Dom Pedro guests. The main beach is wide and safe and there is good swimming potential along with a string of water sports activities. Vilamoura also has a riding centre, lawn bowls club and tennis.

Vilamoura is especially known for its excellent golf and many timeshare owners are keen golfers taking advantage of the half a dozen courses in this area. They are all close at hand, a full 18 holes and beautifully designed. Membership prices are reasonable, to boot.

The Marina is without doubt the focal point of Vilamoura and this is where most of the fun can be had; think myriad bars and waterside restaurants. It is fabulous for a stroll day or night--being safe and clean--while deep sea fishing trips go out from here along with cruises of the Algarve coast and caves.

Also in town are the ruins at Cerro da Vila. Also of interest is the town of Quarteira which adjoins Vilamoura. Both Faro and Albufeira are also within reach, along with several quaint villages by car. It is just a 20 or 30 minute transfer from the airport at Faro.
