Set backing Albufeira’s beautiful Forte de Sao Joao beach, the Ondamar Resort is just an 800m stroll from the sands and sparkling ocean. Surrounded by prettily landscaped gardens, its timeshare apartments overlook the outdoor and children’s pools, a pool bar, charming little lakes and a cooling waterfall.

Accommodation here is air-conditioned and spacious, comprising 10 studios, 64 one-bedroomed units and 12 two-bedroomed apartments in a modern setting. Sleeping between two and six guests, they provide an attractively furnished holiday home from home for couples, families and small groups.

Albufeira’s buzzing nightlife, fun shopping and fascinating Old Town are just 15 to 20 minutes’ walk from the complex. Here you’ll find Avenida Sa Cameira, known as The Strip, crammed with tiny stores selling the colourful Portuguese pottery, locally designed jewellery and much more. The 12th century Moorish-style Castelo de Almoada is a must, and the narrow, twisting streets below its towers offer traditional Portuguese restaurants and quaint music bars.
