Very well regarded on top review sites, such as Tripadvisor, is the Pestana Hotel Viking, a four-star equivalent timeshare complex of the Armação de Pêra region of the Algarve. It is noted as being ‘amazing’, with spotless apartments and plentiful facilities. Enjoying a cliff top location to the west of Albufeira, it boasts striking ocean views and is tailored to families.

Though high up and self-contained in every way, Pestana Hotel Viking has direct access to the beach and is also within easy reach of the excesses of Armação de Pêra and Porches. Pestana Hotel Viking’s 180 rooms are large, fresh and well decorated with neutral colours and feature a balcony with garden or ocean views. The air conditioned units come with cable TV, safe and mini bar and a kitchen area has all mod cons.

There are two swimming pools on the grounds which are a big hit, along with extensive palm gardens and paths that lead off for cliff walks. It’s the perfect relaxing environment any time of year owing to the Algarve’s enviable climate, even in winter, and is especially fine for those with kids owing to the large range of leisure activities on hand.

The Pestana Kids Club is ideal for those with younger kids, while mums and dads can hit the Spa Magic Wellness for a spot of R&R in its Turkish bath and Jacuzzi. A fitness suite, tennis courts, various other sports and games options, along with nightly entertainment, completes the line-up. There are also meeting rooms for business types and paid internet access.

For eating out, try the Pool Bistro for snacks and salads, or the Valhalla with its buffets and tasty a la carte meals. There is also an Italian eatery onsite and Pestana has a couple of bars including the lively and cultured Gallery Bar.

Pestana Hotel Viking is not far from the centre of Armação de Pêra, which has become somewhat of a relaxing side attraction from nearby Albufeira for the more discerning guest. There are miles of beaches and some fabulous cliff walks all the way west to the bustling resort town of Portimão.

You’ll find the quaint fishing village centre at the eastern end, noted for its 17th century fort and old houses. This is the area to be for quaint shopping and eating amid the network of tight, cobbled alleys. Silves is easily reached from here and Faro International Airport is about 40 minutes by shuttle or taxi.
