Water sports such as snorkelling are available on the beach, and the San Fernando complex holds a sports centre complete with tennis and squash courts and a football pitch. There’s a gym nearby and, as the complex is set in an isolated area, hiring a car is recommended.

For a change of beach and the chance to explore a fascinating town, Denia is just a short drive away. A functioning fishing town, its marina hosts yachts, boat and fishing trips, and the harbourside eateries give a good choice of dishes in a romantic setting. Its Crusader castle and the historic old fishermen’s quarter are well worth a visit.
