The Royal Savoy is in a prime position within walking distance to Funchal town and many excellent restaurants. Two of our favourites are Hemingway's with live music and/or singer and Casa Da Penha which has a delightful roof terrace. The apartment comprises of two bedrooms one with en-suite and one with bathroom complete with shower and there is a double sofa bed which can be screened off for privacy. There is also another separate toilet. There are three balconies, one with table and chairs and are sea- facing and overlooking the pools. The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and all cooking facilities if required plus all crockery, pans etc. The resort has a restaurant with some themed evenings, a lounge with live entertainment most evenings. There is also an outdoor eating area by the pool or on the terrace serving lunches and also special evening meals. The resort is maintained to a very high level. There is lots to see/ do in Funchal - cable car ride, botanical gardens, shopping, levada walks and the famous bobsleigh ride. There is a beautiful park and sometimes there is a concert there. There is a long promenade with many shops and a transformation with new restaurants etc. There are many tours offered and a visit to the local market is worth a visit as some of the stall holders wear their national costumes. The fish market is also worth visiting showing the local fish which can only be found in Madeira or Japan. This is a scabbard fish which is so large and ugly but so tasty and is offered cooked many ways in all restaurants. Well worth a try! Take a dip in the Lava pools, sleigh ride down the steep streets of Funchal in a wicker toboggan and visit the tropical gardens of Monte Palace. For the more adventurous a trek to Pico Ruivo delivers stunning views of the volcanic landscape.
