We have spent many happy years coming to Belton Woods and first came when our children were young. They are now adults, and the lodge is just too large for the two of us. Week 30 is at the end of July and is at the beginning of the school holidays. It offers the promise of warm sunny weather and long days to enjoy walks in the woods on the grounds of the estate or leisurely meals on the balcony.

As lodge owners, we have access to the facilities at the Belton Woods Hotel. These include the swimming pool, gym, tennis courts, squash court and the spa. We also have the use of a golf buggy for a round of golf. There are two challenging golf courses - the Lakes and the Woods courses - at Belton Woods and the Lakes course has hosted PGA competitions. The lodge has a great view of the golf courses from the balcony and overlooks the fairway of the third hole of the Woods course.

We found that there are many things to do and see for both young and old. For example, nearby historic Belton House has a formal garden, lakeside walks and an adventure playground for the children. You can go fruit picking at nearby Syston Park Farm. Next door is the Belton Garden Centre with an ice cream parlour. Isaac Newton's birthplace in Woolsthorpe Manor still has the famous apple tree in the garden. On a memorable visit to Lincoln Castle, we were able to view an original version of the Magna Carta and were treated to the spectacle of knights on horseback jousting with lances in a tournament on the grounds. We have also enjoyed excellent food at nearby pubs and restaurants. We particularly enjoyed Harry's Place in Great Gonerby. For shopaholics, the Downtown Store and Oldrids are nearby in Gonerby Moor.
