Sellers Description*

The best thing about our timeshare at Rutland Hall is the setting in the resort. It is at ground level, so we can open the French windows, walk out onto the terrace, sit by one of the tables and gaze south over a large lawn towards Rutland Water: maybe drink a glass of wine or nibble something and relax. There are heaps of space, because all the buildings are low-rise, distant and, to make it even better, recently renovated. Ours was completely refurbished in 2021-22.

For the sporting, or hopeful at any rate, the resort has a gym, a swimming pool, and a number of games, like miniature golf, tennis courts and a bowling green. Equipment is available. There are great walks alongside the lake immediately adjacent to Rutland Hall: I stride out each day.

Another great thing is the general location. Oakham is a delightful old fashioned English market town, with at least one excellent restaurant, Hitchens's Barn, recommended by Michelin with a very good value lunch menu and excellent cellar. There is also the Falcon Hotel for lunch or dinner, in Uppingham just down the road, an old coaching inn, which is very classy and not at all expensive. I relish the shopping in Uppingham too. Service in all these locations is exceptionally friendly. Besides eating out and shopping, there is a plethora of wonderful wildlife observation around the lake, with ospreys nesting and nationally important observation areas. And if you fancy yourself as a mariner, you can hire a rowing boat about three miles east of the resort.

On the other hand, for a dose of culture, accessible by excellent roads, it is an easy drive of under an hour to Cambridge, where the university, the town and the museums are world class sites to take in. My favourites there are King's College Chapel and the Fitzwilliam Museum. Breakfast at The Copper Kettle is not to be sneezed at either, with walks along the Backs, around the University Botanic Gardens and on Parker's Pieces. Shopping is excellent: up to London standards with a casual vibe. Best of all, there are several "Park and Rides" around the city.

All in all, our apartment at Rutland Hall is a tranquil spot, visiting around Easter depending on its date, with lots to do in comfort and lots to experience.
