Marriott's Mountain Valley Lodge at Breckenridge combines European alpine elegance and modern Colorado action all in one excellent ski resort in Breckenridge in the Rockies, just 1.5 hours west of Denver.

At the very centre of the Breckenridge ski region, Marriott's Mountain Valley Lodge is a ski in-ski out resort situated at the top of the high street. It is probably the most ideally located ski accommodation we have ever stayed at. After 30 years of skiing all over the world we stayed at Breckenridge and loved the resort and location - we invested 14 years ago and have been back every year ever since.

The one-bedroom apartments have been delightfully furnished in rich warm colours and come complete with all modern conveniences and appliances - a full kitchen is part of the apartment. All of the rooms have large screen TVs with iPod docking station and free WiFi. The one-bedroom villa has two full bathrooms and separate living and dining areas. Large master bedrooms with breath-taking views over Maggie Pond and snow-clad mountains (see the photos) make for a fantastic ski location. Onsite, you'll find a heated outdoor pool, whirlpool, and an entertaining kids cub as a well as a full fitness centre. There is a large underground car park with space for all.

The skiing at Breckenridge caters for all abilities - from gentle greens to challenging double black moguls, and everything in between. Breckenridge has five peaks and the lift outside your room takes you straight up Peak 9. The other peaks are easily accessible from each other. Peak 8 is perfect for beginners with a long gentle incline, while Peak 10 has some more challenging runs. If you buy the right ski pass - we normally buy a season pass for our two weeks - you can ski other resorts in the area such as Keystone and Vail. Slightly further afield, the Arapahoe Ski Basin offers excellent snowboarding and Copper Mountain has over 2400 acres of trails (one of my favourites).

Après ski is a very important part of any ski holiday. Breckenridge is an old mining town and looks like you have just arrived on a wild west set. There are loads of shops in town, but one of our favourite trips is out to Silverthorne for a bit of outlet shopping (9 miles away). The restaurants range from standard burgers and ribs to excellent fine dining. Our favourites are Heartstone and Briar Rose.

Breck Culture Center often have great bands playing and we always travel up to Beaver Creek to the Vilar Center for big named bands.

We have always had 2 weeks at Mountain Valley Lodge, as it makes the trip from the UK worthwhile. We bring friends every year and have a waiting list for those who want to come with us. The 2 weeks are both for sale on this site.

After over 40 years of skiing, we are now reluctantly ready to hang up our poles. However, it is such a beautiful place, that if we don't sell, we will still use the villa for the fresh air, great food, and total relaxation.
