We just love it at the Savoy! One of our favourite activities is just doing nothing but eating a little breakfast on our balcony while we watch the summer sun slowly rise, perhaps with a glass of sparkling wine and fresh orange juice. We get the sun all day long until late afternoon. Sometimes we find it difficult to pull ourselves away from our south facing, 11th floor 'room in the sky' because of the fantastic panoramic view which takes in (as I write this) the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship to the west, the Savoy's swimming pool and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, and the Royal Savoy to the east.

We also really enjoy going up to the top of the Savoy to take advantage of the luxury double sunbeds on the 'soft touch' grassed roof where we can enjoy a 360° panorama of Funchal, complete with ocean and mountains. We especially like to sit up there in the outdoor Sky Garden, with a cocktail, while we watch the sun go down.

Please also visit the Hibiscus restaurant where we often enjoyed a fantastic breakfast, outside or inside. The service is good, and the food is divine.

Another brilliant place to eat at the Savoy is the newly opened 'Pau de Lume' which is open every day and is a real classy place to eat. We had a light lunch there in February this year, just before flying back to England. It hit the spot.

We can't finish this piece without mentioning the staff at the Savoy Palace. They certainly deserve our praise. They are the most friendly and helpful bunch you could wish to meet, ever ready to cater to our slightest needs.

Overall, we think there is only one word that truly describes the Savoy Palace to us and that is 'sheer luxury' Well, maybe two words are "sheer unbridled luxury". OK then, make it three!
