It always feels like a home from home when you arrive at the Pestana Grand. The staff always gives you a warm welcome.

The apartment is on the 6th floor and has stairs leading from the balcony to our private roof terrace. What's great is sitting on the balcony looking out over the ocean. You never tire of seeing the sun rising out of the ocean when you are sitting on your balcony and drinking your first cup of tea of the day. It's a glorious start to your day. My photograph captured one of these sunrises. The roof terrace gets full sun from dawn to dusk. The roof terrace is one of the largest at Pestana Grand and one of the few that offers full sun all day. It's great to go up onto the terrace in the evening sunshine for your pre-dinner drinks before heading out to one of the many good restaurants nearby. There are so many to choose from and some offer a complimentary pickup and drop-off service. Guest Relations or the Hotel Receptionist will happily book your table for you. Just a few steps walk from the hotel there are some very good restaurants specialising in fish, Madeiran cuisine, Indian and Chinese and fine dining. Funchal has restaurants to cater for everyone's taste so you are spoilt for choice. The hotel has good restaurants and offer discounts to owners. You also have a kitchen so you can self-cater if you prefer to eat in.

The apartment is well maintained throughout your stay, with a daily maid service to clean, change towels, make up the beds, etc. The bed linen is change mid-week, and the towels daily. They really keep on top of things without being intrusive.

There are three lovely swimming pools, two outdoor and one indoor. There are plenty of sunbeds around the pool and there is never a shortage.

The Pestana Grand offers you a fantastic location to explore the beautiful island of Madeira. The advantage of being an owner is that you can spread this over your visits to make your holidays more relaxing, but do go out and see the island. It has so much to offer.

We had many fantastic holidays spent at the Pestana Grand. It took a long time considering what is the best way forward after the death of my wife and I feel I must look for new ventures. I am therefore reluctantly selling my weeks 40 and 41 in October. I also own weeks 18 and 19 in May. I do love visiting Madeira and being part of the Pestana Family but feel it is time to sell my ownership onto someone who will enjoy as many memorable holidays as we did.
