The lodge is beautifully situated on the beck (River Brathay) that bounds the western edge of the Langdale Estate. The beck provides a fabulous sound backdrop to your stay, mostly a gentle murmur, but after heavy rain it can transform to a spectacular raging torrent. It provides plenty of opportunity to observe the local wildlife that visit the beck and the trees beyond. This can all be achieved indoors from the comfort of the sofas or in the fresh air from the balcony. Another bonus of the location of the lodge is that the main complex is just a short crossing of the service road behind the property, definitely welcome if you get caught in a shower!

In the 20 years or so that we have been owners we have had a great variety of weather to enhance the landscape. Just the occasional fall of snow, but definitely more than our fair share of being able to sit out in shirt sleeves enjoying the spring sunshine.

The Scandinavian designed lodge is a Windermere design and the changeover day is Friday. It is really well appointed with all the modern conveniences that you would expect including fan oven, induction hob, wine cooler and fridge/freezer. There is a generous quantity of crockery and cutlery meaning that you don�t have to keep running the integrated dishwasher.

It has two well-appointed and comfortable bedrooms on the ground floor, a double and a twin, both ensuite. The double includes a spa bath. The ground floor also has a drying cabinet, extremely useful if the weather turns wet. The living accommodation is on the first floor where a clever unit provides a pull down fully made up double bed which is very comfortable. This floor provides an open plan living room and kitchen with a good size dining table that accommodates six with ease. There is also a shower room with sauna.

The estate is stunningly beautiful, and facilities at the hotel are second to none with a swimming pool, hot tub, saunarium (like a sauna only gentler) and gym. There is also a luxurious health spa where all kinds of treatments are available. Lodge owners get a privilege card that secures a discount in the bars, restaurants and spa. Special offers are almost always available. Another bonus is that owners at Langdale have exclusive access to a private beach on Coniston Water.

The Lake District is a delight at this time of year. It is always popular, but week 12 is a great balance between the promise of spring and summer without the crowds of visitors and associated traffic. The local towns of Ambleside and Windermere are busy but not overcrowded with a plentiful supply of cafes and restaurants.
