Rutland Hall Hotel & Spa (formerly Barnsdale Country Club)Week 1 (Red), 3 bedrooms sleeps 8 £3,900
Sellers Description*
Rutland the smallest county in England, has seen its popularity rise over recent years.
The whole area has some similarity to the Cotswolds on account of its topography and pretty villages built in honey coloured limestone. The same stone as in the Cotswolds - just the other end of the band of the stone that runs underground between them.
Rutland Water is a large reservoir with an area of 3,500 acres set in attractive undulating countryside that was created in the 1970's.
Recreational activity round the lake has developed over the years to include cycling, walking, sailing, fishing, and a nature reserve with a special centre for ornithology. There are several car parks around the perimeter for visitors to the sailing and cycling centres and places for picnics and barbecues abound.
The facilities at Barnsdale Hall support not only the residents of the lodges but visitors to the hotel and local residents who are members and wish to use the gym, swimming pool, squash, and tennis courts. This wider use has resulted in sufficient demand to ensure that high standards of the sport and leisure facilities can be maintained through continual renewal programmes.
There is also a restaurant and bar which again are patronised by clients who are not resident in the lodges and this again helps keep standards up such as a wider choice of menus being available.
The location of this lodge is especially private on the sunny South facing slope close to the water's edge with views towards the Hambleton peninsular. There is access to the path which runs all the way round Rutland Water over the stile in front of the lodge.
The kitchen is large and particularly well equipped and includes washer and drier for laundry. Interior furnishing has been replaced before becoming 'tired'. There are two bathrooms (one en suite) plus a third WC.
There are 2 local towns: -
Oakham, (Capital of Rutland) is 3 miles to the West. A small traditional and attractive market town with High Street and Square providing the background for many interesting independent shops and pubs.
Stamford, 8 miles to the East, is the larger of the two and well known for its attractive architecture and again with interesting independent shops, pubs, and hotels.
Both these towns are worth a visit and there are many traditional pubs and gasto pubs in the locality with good reputations for their food.
