With its ocean-front position backing lovely Reis Magos Beach, the hotel is great for families and couples, although the steep gradients of the town may not suit older holidaymakers. Madeira is a comparatively small island, easily toured by hired car. Funchal, its historic capital, is just a short trip away and is famed for its beauty and heritage architecture. The island’s dramatic, mountainous interior holds traditional villages set along superb scenic drives, and its rugged coastline boasts white-painted fishing villages perched on rugged cliffs.
