The Barnsdale Country Club and Hotel (BCC) is sited overlooking the beautiful reservoir in Rutland and is situated circa 5 miles from the charming town of Oakham. In town, you can find a wide variety of restaurants catering for most tastes and pockets, a fine mixture of shops and a large Tesco. It also has the Land's End Factory shop on the edge of town where you can pick up a bargain!

The BCC is centrally located, and many attractions are within a short driving distance, Geoff Hamilton's Gardens are just up the road at Exton as well as Hambleton's a fine artisan baker that won The Baker of the Year on the BBC a few years ago.

For the scientific minded a trip to Woolsthorpe House, near Grantham to see how Sir Issac Newton lived is a must.

If you are a fan of the Bard then have an afternoon picnic at Tolethorpe Hall before enjoying a Shakespeare Comedy performed by the Stamford Shakespeare Company, in their Open-Air Theatre. Booking is advisable!

For the golfer, Rutland Golf Club offers two courses a 9 hole and a testing 18 hole. For the more experienced player, Greetham Valley at Greatham offers a challenge and favours those who have a good long game.

However, if you fancy an easy knock or want to learn, the BCC has its own 9-hole pitch and putt and all equipment can be hired, for a small deposit on site.

On Rutland Reservoir you can enjoy a multitude of water sports and I believe that the largest inflatable Waterpark is opening on the waters in May 2019.

For a family day out, you may wish to travel slightly further afield to Wicksteed Park at Kettering for all the fun of a Pleasure Park.

If you decide that you don't wish to drive and want to just chill out, then at BCC there are still lots of things to enjoy. You could sit on the Lodge veranda or balcony, sipping a nice cool wine admiring the view over the reservoir, watching the world go by. Then again, you could get yourself pampered with a visit to the Spa and Beauty Salon or you could have a game of snooker or table tennis. If the weather is fine you may fancy a game of long mat bowls or a crazy game of Crazy Golf! All sports equipment and towels can be obtained at the Leisure Club Reception.

I almost forgot to mention the squash courts, gym and swimming pool.

It is easy to see why with 4-year old twins we decided to buy the lodge,19 years ago and why we had so many good holidays. It is only now that they have grown up that we have finally decided to sell the lodge.

As an owner, you receive 4 free memberships to the Leisure Club which entitles you to use the facilities all year and allows you a 10% discount on all food and drink in the bar and the excellent restaurants. Additionally, if you wish to exchange your week, Dial an Exchange will give you a bonus week as the lodge sleeps 6.

The Lodge is the Cottesmore Type and is spread across two floors and has 1 allocated car space but there is adequate parking close by on site.

The ground floor has the master bedroom with en suite bathroom, fitted wardrobes and TV. It also has a twin bedroom with a bathroom and a separate WC and under stairs storage.

The first floor has a fully fitted kitchen with electric hob and oven, large dining area and an elegant lounge area with doors opening onto the veranda which has seats and a table. TV, DVD, and telephone are also in the area. A further twin bedroom with a wardrobe is at the top of the stairs. All utensils, pans, crockery, and cutlery are provided as well as towels, bed linen and cleaning materials.

Electricity is charged as used and is payable at the end of your holiday.

The Lodge is week 32 which is the second Saturday in August, just at the start of the summer school holidays.

The nearest train station is at Oakham although Peterborough Mainline to London and the North is only 22 miles away.

The Nearest Airport is East Midland is 27 miles away and the main highway the A1iscirca 16 miles away.

So where else could a family of 6 go for a better holiday? I don't know but it certainly wasn't Scotland or Tenerife, ask my kids.
