Kemmons Wilson built a chain of good affordable hotels for families that became Holiday Inns. When he retired, he had time on his hands so, he started Orange Lake. His family still sits on the board. The resort is affiliated to RCI and is an RCI Gold Crown Resort. It is now
part of IHG and its family of resorts and hotels.

The estate has now expanded and includes 54 holes of golf. One course was designed by Arnold Palmer and there is a floodlit 9-hole course for night time play. There are 7 swimming pools (including a water park -River Island), 2 hot Tubs, 2 Crazy golf courses (Putt-Putt),2 shops, Starbucks Coffee shops,5 bars and several restaurants. A supermarket (Publix) and a liquor store are just outside the second entrance. There is an entertainment team on site and its activities are publicised in a newsletter that is supplied to guests. The resort staff can arrange tickets, tours, and transport to all the attractions. A frequent free shuttle bus runs around the resort until late at night.

The nearest international airport is Orlando, about 30-45 minute�s drive away. Stamford airport is a further 15-20 minutes away. Several airlines fly direct from the UK.

The Major attractions, i.e. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld are all within easy driving distance. WDW is only next door! Daytona is about 1� to 2 hours drive west and Cape Kennedy (Canaveral) is about the same to the east. Busch Gardens is about
2-hours drive south.

Whilst we own a week in May, we converted our holding to points. This is particularly useful as we can transfer some of these points to our Holiday Inn Club account - very useful for trips to London, airports etc. The Points system makes it very easy to use other resorts around the world. We have travelled to California, The Canaries, Spain, Madeira, Cyprus, and Mexico. Sadly, our advancing years and health have now made this very difficult.

The apartment is on the 3rd floor of a six-storey block (the Americans count the ground floor as 1 so they say it is on the 4th. floor). Car-parking is free and plentiful and close to the nearby lift as well as a staircase. It is a three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment with air conditioning. The master bedroom is equipped with a king-size bed. The ensuite bathroom has a Jacuzzi as well as a walk-in shower. The second bedroom also has a king-size bed and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. There is also a small lounge area. The third bedroom is equipped with two queen-sized beds. It has its own access to a shower room and toilet that can be closed to the rest of the apartment. This access also houses the washing-machine and dryer. The kitchen/dining room has a dining table and chairs with armchairs and settees.There is a pull-out sofa bed for two. The kitchen has a large cooker, refrigerator with ice making capability, and microwave. There is a waste disposal unit in the double sink. There are enough utensils, cutlery, glassware, and crockery for all occupants. Through the dining room there is access to the balcony. It has a bug screen (very necessary at times) and a fan. The view to the rear is onto one of the golf courses. All bedrooms and the lounge are equipped with flat screen TVs. A safe is provided. This is useful as the resort is cashless. You just present your room card, and everything is charged to your room.
