The apartment for sale is a 1st-floor Studio Apartment at the 5-star Royal Savoy Hotel in Funchal. The resort is affiliated to Interval International for exchange purposes. It is 30-minute drive from the airport.

The fully air-conditioned apartment sleeps up to 4 people and is comprised of a sitting room/additional bedroom, a large double bedroom with a large fitted wardrobe, bathroom, a hall with a second large fitted wardrobe, a small kitchen area within the sitting room and a balcony. The kitchen has an inbuilt microwave oven with an extraction hood, hob, dishwasher, and sink; the refrigerator is separately housed nearby, beneath the television cabinet.

The main views from the balcony are to the south and south-east, out to the Atlantic Ocean, with a closer range view to the west towards the world-famous Reid�s Palace Hotel, set on a high cliff some 500 metres distant. These views are over lush gardens - with abundant palm trees of varying types - which surround the two large outdoor bathing pools (one heated freshwater, the other cold saltwater), a Jacuzzi and a children�s pool. These facilities are located almost at sea level, fronting onto a rocky shoreline, with safe bathing access to the sea. Also present here is a bar with daytime restaurant service. Fronting the heated pool is the main restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch, and evening meals, with an outdoor dining area. There is also a further heated indoor pool, a health spa, gymnasium, and hairdressing salon.

The public areas of the hotel house an extensive collection of objets d�art, many of which are of African origin. The staff are, without exception, extremely efficient and ultra-polite, with a definite liking for British nationals, reinforcing the old allegiance from historic times.

The hotel is located around 15 minute�s easy walk, along the harbour frontage, from the city centre. Within 500 metres of the hotel, there are at least ten restaurants, ranging from local Madeiran-style through to Italian, Thai and Indian. The Old Town just east of the city centre has a great number and variety of restaurants and cafes and has a safe and intimate atmosphere at all times of the day or night. The Worker�s Market is here, too, with an excellent range of fruit and vegetable stalls open 6 days a week.

The two open-top sightseeing bus service routes have a stop within 200 metres of the hotel entrance. These are recommended, as they give unrivalled views of the city and countryside, and they travel as far west as the characterful fishing village of Camara de Lobos. For those of a more energetic disposition, Madeira is renowned for its Levada walking, along an extensive network of water supply channels, some dating from the 16th century. There is also high-level walking through starkly impressive volcanic scenery in the mountains, rising to nearly 7,000 feet in the heart of the island. The lower slopes of these mountains are clad in dense forests, some of which are protected ecosystems which are based on cloud precipitation as much as actual rainfall. There are excellent daily sea trips from Funchal offering dolphin and whale watching, as well as to the nature reserve of the uninhabited Desertas Islands, around 2-hours� sailing to the south-east.

Week 16 often coincides with the Easter holidays. Funchal hosts the famous Flower Festival, when the city centre is even more colourful than normal. The centrepiece is a parade of flower-decked floats, each one with a different theme and assembled by one of the island communities. Each has a different musical accompaniment and is followed by a troupe of dancers resplendent in coloured costumes. The Royal Savoy joins in the Easter celebration in its own special way � a delightful display of chicks housed within a giant open egg in the hotel foyer!
