This lovely 1 bed (sleeps 4) apartment is on the 5th floor of the Pestana Grand, an RCI Gold Crown Resort in a quiet area of Funchal, the bustling capital of Madeira, with its all-year-round mild climate, lush vegetation and great walking opportunities.

The Grand comprises a mixture of timeshare apartments and hotel rooms and is ranked as a 5-star property. It has two outdoor pools set in tropical gardens and one indoor, plus spa and treatment centre. It also has 3 restaurants and a spacious bar/lounge with after dinner entertainment. There is underground parking and lifts to all floors.

There is a hotel shuttle bus to the centre of town as well as a good (and cheap!) local bus service but the walk along the promenade into town is a pleasant alternative. If you don't always want to eat in the hotel, there are numerous local restaurants. For self-caterers there are 2 supermarkets within walking distance and a good range of other shops.

This apartment is for Week 20, roughly mid-May, so is outside school holidays and the crowded festival periods. It is comfortably and stylishly furnished. The apartment has a "thru" sitting and dining room, with an open kitchen area at one end, a large double bedroom, a good-sized bathroom, and a separate shower room with loo and basin.

The kitchen is fitted with dishwasher, fridge (with small freezer compartment), combi-microwave and 4-ring hob. There are two TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the sitting room, plus DVD player, and aircon throughout. The view from the balcony - as per our photo - is spectacular, encompassing the hotel's colourful and well-maintained gardens, the outdoor pool area and, of course, the ocean.
