In the opposite direction from The Village a reasonable walk will take you past The Forum with its cinemas shops along the sea front to the fishing village of Camara de Lobos where Winston Churchill used to paint. You can pause in the village for a well deserved glass of Madeira's own cocktail "Poncha". Walk back if you will or catch the frequent bus.

Once back in The Village you might fancy popping across the road to Reid's which is an historic hotel and has hosted, Churchill, the Emperor of Austria, Margaret Thatcher and Roger Moore amongst many others in its time. Go there for a drink in the evening and admire the views or earlier for a classic afternoon tea.
