The Royal Savoy is one of the most prestigious resorts on Madeira. It is very well located on a slight hill up from Funchal, which is a 10/15 minute walk away or a short taxi ride. Funchal has many attractions: museums, cafes, bars and restaurants, all in a relaxed and beautiful setting. The resort has secure parking although car hire on Madeira is not always necessary due to the good bus service. Taxis are also reasonably priced. Supermarkets and corner shop outlets are within easy walking distance.

Access to the airport is about 30 minutes or less by taxi but there are regular bus services to Funchal.

The Royal Savoy resort offers a very high level of luxury and service. Every night there is a different themed eating option in the restaurant as well as free nightly entertainment in the large bar area. There are 2 large outdoor swimming pools and an indoor pool as well as a spa facility. One thing we particularly like is the fact that there is plenty of space around the pool areas for sunbathing and relaxing. Towels are provided and we have never known a situation where all the sunbeds are taken. You can usually find a secluded spot if you want it. There is a poolside bar/cafe for daytime meals and drinks.

Our accommodation includes a large main suite (see picture) with kitchen which is well enough equipped to serve meals if wanted. Both suites have ensuite bathrooms and there is also an additional WC by the dining area. We chose this particular suite because it has a large verandah area which can be used for sunbathing or entertaining. From the verandah there is a view of the sea and the famous Reids Hotel. Sunsets in June with drinks on the verandah are a favourite time for us. There is an outdoor table and chairs as well as sunbeds. A secondary smaller suite is attached to the main suite through a connecting door which can be locked if necessary. This therefore provides good privacy for other guests. We have always been proud to show off the suite to our guests.

Within the resort there are lifts to all floors. On the lower floors there is a large comfortable sitting area with library. On the floor below is the resort office which is manned during the day and staff are available to answers questions and assist with arranging tours, car hire and so on. All staff at the Royal Savoy speak English and communication is easy.

The Royal Savoy allows flexibility in the use of the suite. Week 25 is at the end of June but options include letting it out to other members for a fee (listing is free on the members website), banking your week for use at another time of the year, or selling your week on the open market. In addition, due to the lock-up nature of the suite, it is possible to use part of the suite and either bank the other part or let it out.

We are selling our week due to a change in health which makes air travel more difficult.
