Hotel Cais Da OliveiraWeek 21 (Red), 1 Bedroom sleeps 4 SOLD
Sellers Description*
Location and Climate
Cais da Oliveira is located in a bay at the Atlantic Ocean's edge. Although only twenty minutes from the airport it is not on the flight path, and there is no aircraft noise. The island's all-year-round combination of sun and occasional rain provides Christmas Day sunbathing, but also the green environment and bearable temperatures allowing comfortable sightseeing and other activities.
The Apartment (completely refurbished, together with the rest of the hotel, in 2014)
Sited at the top of the building, and facing South, this large apartment enjoys a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean. A lift goes to the fifth floor, and then there is a small exclusive staircase, ensuring the apartment's complete privacy. The long balcony has doors from both sitting room and bedroom, and takes a table, four chairs and a sun bed. The apartment's sizable rooms, with generous wardrobe and storage space, allow it to comfortably accommodate four people.
The separate kitchenette has a fridge/freezer, hob, dishwasher and microwave, and the spacious bathroom a toilet, hand wash basin and double shower unit. There is also a separate cloakroom with a toilet and hand wash basin. The apartment's amenities include:
a safe
telephone
iron/ironing board
hairdryer (in bathroom)
cable television in both the sitting room and bedroom
Resort Facilities
In addition to the swimming pool and surrounding sunbathing area, there is a large garden terrace with seating, and both overlook the ocean and beautiful coastline. From the balcony at night the lights of small boats fishing is the bay can be seen, and it is so quiet that their engine's soft 'chugging' can sometimes be heard across the still, moonlit water.
As well as their own facilities, guests can also access those of Roca Mar and Royal Orchid, hotels just next door within the same ownership. Royal Orchid had a library, gym and in-and-out swimming pool, and Roca Mar hosts a daily Happy Hour with two- for-one colourful cocktails and, later in the bar, live musical entertainment.
Local Amenities
There are small shops, and local supermarkets for self-catering needs, and as well as excellent hotel restaurants and bars there are many others close by, from a busy Italian Pizzeria to those offering fresh seafood and Madeiran specialties such as Espetada, tender steak grilled with herbs on a laurel skewer.
Local activities include watersports - there is a nearby diving centre - fishing, and walking, either a leisurely coastal stroll along the promenade to the tiny pebble beach, or more strenuously along the famous levadas, channels which deliver mountain water to the many crops grown on this fertile island.
Canico da Baixo (lower Canico) has a more gentle, quieter pace of life than Funchal, but you can find the capital's cafe culture, wine stores, excellent shopping, flower, fruit and vegetable market, museums, and more, just a 15 minute local bus or taxi ride away. Bookable courtesy buses are also provided by the resort several times a day. If you wish to explore further, go to the mountains for spectacular scenery, waterfalls, wild lilies and mimosa, to Santana, to see tiny traditional cottages, or to the wonderful Botanical gardens, with amazing plants and views across the island. There is always something to do in Madeira.
