Blackwater Meadow Marina is within walking distance of Ellesmere, a picture market town close to the Welsh Borders, on the stunning Llangollen Canal. The canal leaves the Shropshire Union Canal just north of Nantwich in Cheshire passing through the Shropshire farmlands and then crossing the Welsh border near Chirk. Cutting through hilly countryside it finishes alongside the river Dee just above Llangollen. At 41 miles long the canal takes at least three days to cruise one-way and is probably the most beautiful canal in Britain.

The canal boasts the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest aqueduct in Britain, a Grade 1 Listed Building and a World Heritage Site. Towns along the way include medieval Whitchurch, boasting half-timbered buildings, Ellesmere set in its own 'Lake District', the fortified town of Chirk and Llangollen itself.

For a relaxing and tranquil holiday, offering an escape from modern day living, a canal boat holiday offers a unique and different experience which can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Time almost seems to stand still and this allows the opportunity to feel at one with nature and unwind and enjoy our beautiful countryside.

If you have never enjoyed this experience, full training is provided before leaving the marina and people quickly become confident and competent in handling the narrow-boat. This canal is easily navigable and help is always at hand if required.
