With spectacular views over Loch Lomond and Ben Lomond beyond, our lodge must be one of the best locations at Cameron House. (lt was the former show-house.) The house is situated next to the first green on the Wee Demon Golf Course enabling owners to play a few holes from the front door and then resume after a well-earned cup of coffee indoors.

The house is big: it sleeps 8 in great comfort with three bathrooms, jaccuzzi and private sauna. There are three restaurants available for guests, including the lovely boat-house with its New England decor and water-front location by the marina. However, the best meals are probably prepared at home and eaten in the elegant open-plan upper floor with its huge floor space, leather sofas and armchairs and a dining table that seats 8. The room has a wooden clad ceiling rising a good 20 feet and a glass wall along its length to catch the scenery. A well equipped kitchen forms part of the room so the cooks do not lose out on the chatter.

Owners have free access to the sports centre; the pool and gym overlook the loch across a green sward of grass dotted with mature trees and an ever-changing horizon for those plodding away at the running machines. For those less active, the lounge and bar offers similar views but in the gracious comfort of deep tartan armchairs, coffee and the ubiquitous shortbread biscuits.

There is much to do in the vicinity. We particularly lovely the ride to Crinnan and a lunch of scallops at the hotel there, travelling via Loch Fyne and the charming town of lnveraray, built by the Dukes of Argyll whose castle lies just off the road. There is a fine walk along the Crinnan canal. Access to Glasgow is easy by road or by train
from Balloch with endless museums and galleries, shops and sites. Try the new transport museum with cars on the walls and a tall ship moored on the adjoining quay.

The walking in the Trossachs by Loch Katrine is glorious and, closer to home, the stretch of the West Highland Way which travels along the east side of Loch Lomond taking in Conic Hill with the (iconic) view of the Loch and its many islands.

Travel from the rest of the UK is easy, along fast roads through great countryside. Glasgow is less than an hour away and the border with England another, hour beyond. For those wanting to use public
