PESTANA MIRAMAR, FUNCHAL, MADEIRA

This is a 4-star complex, about one mile from Funchal town and seafront and about 60 yards from a small super-market, bakers shop/cafe and a newsagent. The Bus stop is about 24 yards from the Miramar and there is a good bus service into Funchal and to a large hypermarket about one mile in the opposite direction. There is also a large indoor vegetable, fish and flower market in the town, as well as another large hypermarket.

It is easy to walk into Funchal, down hill, and about half of it through a very pleasant park, which has a small open air cafe near the entrance.

There is a taxi rank about 100 yards from the Resort, and they may be ordered from the Miramar Reception Desk - 24 hours, seven day service. Taxis are not very expensive and there are many available. Taxis may be pre-ordered by the Miramar for airport pick-up (about 15 miles and there is also a bus service both ways). Fares are reasonable. One price for any length of journey.

Weeks 7 an d 8 (late February, often including school half term are the normal weeks), but transfers are possible, including to other Pestana Timeshares, both in Madeira, Portugal and worldwide on payment of a Transfer fee for any other times during the year. Weeks can be banked for future use in the following year/s.

On site there are two outdoor swimming pools (one heated) and one indoor pool. There are four restaurants (one is Italian which also does take-away food) and a hairdresser. Booking for trips, Taxis and other restaurants can be made on site. There is a licensed bar in the indoor Winter-garden with entertainment on some evenings. There is also a very well maintained garden with seating.

The apartment is on the fourth floor (lifts and stairs are provided). The apartment has two balconies which provide an excellent view of the mountains. Chairs and tables are provided. The accommodation is cleaned every day. Bed linen is changed every other day and clean towels etc are provided every day.

There is one bedroom with a double bed and two other people can sleep on the sofa-bed in the lounge area. There is one bathroom and the kitchen has a combination microwave, two hotplates, an electric kettle and coffee perculator, toaster and cutlery and china for four persons.

Funchal is a very mountainous and attractive island. It is well worth taking the cable car up to the Botanical gardens and the coach tours (pick up form the Miramar) are very interesting and good value.

Cars can be hired from a nearby agent and can be left in the underground car park on the site. The volcanic caves are worth a visit. Walking tours are available and golf can be organised by the office on site.

In February the weather is generally very good, with temperatures up to 23 degrees. Sun-loungers are provided round the pools.

My wife and I bought the Timeshare when it was being built sixteen years ago, and we have been every year, but my wife is now 83 and I am 85 and the airports are becoming a struggle for us so we are reluctantly selling it.
