The Pestana Promenade Ocean Resort Hotel is one of the latest (6 years old) hotels on the new coastal promenade on the western outskirts of Funchal, being only a 10 minute bus-ride from the city centre. It is built right on the coast separated from the sea by the new pedestrian promenade and cliff-top coastal gardens, leading to the start of a coastal walk to the fishing village of Camara de Lobos. Madeira enjoys an all year round warm (sub-tropical) climate and has lovely warm evenings.

There is a small supermarket behind the hotel, a taxi rank, and numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as many more along the promenade. There is a frequent bus service to the city terminus where buses run to all locations on the island. The Pestana Vacation Club and on-site Owners team offer a reduced cost taxi service from and to the airport, 20 minutes (23 km) away, as well as giving full support for all holiday excursions and activities. There is an Owners lounge and computer room on the second floor, as well as Owners and hotel-wide Wi-Fi.

The most striking feature of Pestana's latest hotel is its prime oceanfront location set in the heart of the tourist area having direct secure access to the coastal promenade. It is set in extensive landscaped tropical gardens, with parasols and loungers for sunbathing, has the largest well heated pools on the island (with jet streams), and features a state of the art Spa facility with heated indoor pool, treatment rooms, relax areas, gym, sauna, jacuzzi and Turkish bath. Also on the ground floor there is a main buffet restaurant, a la carte dining, a pool-side restaurant, main lounge and bar (with evening entertainment), plus a games room on the 1st floor. Lifts and stairs lead up to the reception (5th) floor where there is the Owners' support office and main entrance. There is a large secure basement car park.

This studio (one of 230 luxury apartments) is well away from reception in an exceptionally quiet location in a prime position and has a large balcony accessed through full size double glazed picture windows, and has a nice view of the gardens, pools and sea. The balcony is not overlooked and has two loungers, two chairs and a table where one can breakfast or lunch in the sun. The apartment has twin beds with side tables, a double sofa bed (and is fully equipped for 4), sideboard, dining table and chairs, two easy chairs and a well equipped kitchenette with refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. The wardrobe contains the safe, and the bathroom has a shower. There is a modern flat screen TV as well as a DVD player.

The week always coincides with the annual firework and music festival. This year's low maintenance cost (limited to national inflation) has been paid and the studio is available this year. Pestana allow the week to be banked, providing an opportunity to use their other resort hotels worldwide, giving two weeks elsewhere (for two people) when out of peak (red) season. Pestana is affiliated to RCI. The lease expires at the end of 2023 but an extension was recently offered for sale and may still be available.
