The Pestana Grand Ocean Resort Hotel is a superb 5* hotel, 30 minutes walk from the centre of the old town and 5 minutes from the Forum shopping mall. The transfer from the airport is about 20 minutes by taxi, at a cost of approximately £20.

The location, immediately above the popular cliff top promenade provides good access for evening walks to local restaurants and the walkway to Camaro De Lobos, a lovely traditional fishing village. Alternative walks take you to the old town with its flower and fish markets. This particular week sometimes coincides with the Flower Festival, where all the local children parade with bouquets and flowers in their hair.

The hotel is well established with lush gardens and palm trees surrounding the pool area. The superb salt water outdoor pool and indoor fresh water pool areas are great for chilling out after a day exploring this beautiful island.

Funchal is a great location for walkers, whether it's the high mountain walks to Ruivo Peak (1862mts), the highest on the island of Madeira, or the more leisurely Levadas, which are water channels that run through the mountains, with narrow paths alongside.

The timeshare is a fixed week, however it can be exchanged for other weeks or other resorts through Pestana, for a small fee.

The studio apartment has a balcony with a view over the pool, with chairs, loungers and a table. It is tastefully decorated and fully equipped for self catering, or you can take advantage of the hotels three restaurants. The apartment is air conditioned, It sleeps up to four people in comfort and has a full bathroom and a well appointed kitchen.
