For those new to holidaying in Madeira, you will find it a friendly and relaxing place to spend some time. There are lots of places to visit and explore if you choose. The Winter temperatures vary between about 15oC (evening and night-time) and 23oC (midday), it is pleasantly warm without being oppressively hot. Whether you like sightseeing, gardens, walking, shopping, dining out or simply lazing around, Madeira has it all.

The Pestana Grand is well located for restaurants, bars and grocery shopping, and the landscaped pool area has a secure access gate taking you straight onto the seafront promenade. Turn left and head towards the Lido area for supermarkets and a whole host of places to eat. Likewise, turn right out of the gate and you will find an excellent fish restaurant and the promenade path to Camera de Lobos (Bay of Wolves).

Coming to Madeira over the New Year, you simply cannot miss the fabulous firework display. One of the biggest in the world, it won a Guinness World Record in 2006/07. One of the best viewpoints is from the top of the hill at the end of Caminho do Pico da Cruz (where the radio masts are), the Pestana Grand is perfectly situated for the walk, or the bus, to watch the fireworks with the locals.

The Pestana Grand itself is a well-appointed hotel and is decorated to a high standard, and the staff could not be more helpful. It has excellent facilities including a hairdresser, gym, indoor and outdoor pools, with a poolside cafe bar. The steam room and sauna are well worth a visit after a day walking the levadas.

The hotel operates a courtesy bus to and from the city centre and public transport is cheap. Buy a 'GIRO' rechargeable electronic bus ticket and hop on and off the (yellow) buses across the city. The GIRO cards can be recharged at most newsagents and gift shops, and the bus stop is near the main entrance to the Pestana Grand.

The accommodation is a studio apartment for two people with a kitchenette, including hob & combination microwave and private balcony. All maintenance fees have been paid for 2016 and the apartment is available for use this year.

So why are we selling? We also own weeks 50 and 51 (at another Pestana resort) and have decided to split our three weeks and have a week away during the year.
