This fabulous apartment at the Madeira Promenade is situated approximately 20 minutes drive from Funchal airport. There is a bus service, or the Pestana Owner Relations Office at the Promenade resort will organise a taxi or a coach to meet you.

The apartment is on the second floor, serviced by lifts, of a complex completed just a few years ago, but sufficiently long ago for the beautiful planting to have matured. It is fully air-conditioned. It looks out over the sea and over the very attractive swimming pool complex. It is lovely to sit out on the balcony in the cool of the evening, when the pools and balconies are all lit up. The balcony is huge and furnished with a table and chairs and two sun loungers. The very large bedroom has access to the balcony, is equipped with a flat screen TV and has an ensuite bathroom, with shower and loo and two wash basins. There is also a shower room and loo off the living room area, so that anyone sleeping here has their own facilities. The living room too is huge, with two sofas - one which converts into a double sofa bed - chairs, flat screen TV, wardrobe, dining table and chairs for four and an adjoining kitchen area equipped with fridge, hob, oven, dishwasher etc. There are supermarkets a short walk away if you want to prepare your own meals or stock up on drinks and snacks. Arrangements can be made to borrow a cot if required.

There is an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna etc and beauty salon at the end of the pool complex, and a gym in the main building.

You can eat in the Promenade restaurant, or at the very pleasant pool bar during the day. You can choose to buy a Promenade breakfast package and set yourself up for the day with a substantial breakfast selected from the breakfast buffet. There is plenty of space to enjoy this outside at a table overlooking the sea. In the evenings we have always gone out to one of the many little local restaurants in the immediate vicinity or into the very charming old part of Funchal, where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Dinner at The Fort is a must.

The resort is within easy reach of Madeira's delightful capital, Funchal, with its bustling seafront, restaurants and cafes and vibrant, colourful indoor market. There is a regular bus service to and fro and taxis are very reasonably priced. The more energetic are happy to walk there. Visit the Owner Relations office, where the very obliging staff will give you advice and organise excursions to every part of the island. I particularly love the jeep excursions up through the forests and into the centre of the island where you get to see how the locals live and have lived for centuries, farming their terraces. If you want exercise and stunning scenery, there are the famous levada walks to cater for almost every level of difficulty, from very easy to very challenging. You can take the cable car up to Monte Palace and tropical gardens and take an exciting ride down in the typical Monte basket carriages. The mandolin concert is another must. The possibilities are endless.

The week for sale is in September, a great time to visit Madeira. However, should you wish to exchange your week, the resort is affiliated to RCI. Although we were at first given complementary membership of RCI, we never used it because we so much enjoyed being in Madeira. It is also easy to add days or weeks on, to lengthen your holiday.
I love Madeira for so many reasons - the warm friendliness of its people, the climate, the feeling of being completely safe walking around day or night, the relaxing atmosphere, the stunning flora. I could go on! I love this apartment too. It is very reluctantly, owing to changed family circumstances, that I have put it on the market.
