For sale is my 3 bedroom apartment at the luxurious 5 star Marriott Vacation Club Playa Andaluza, Costa del Sol, Spain. I initially rented an apartment for a warm and sunny winter holiday one February, and was so impressed that I made enquiries to purchase an apartment three months later. I do not need a 3 bedroom apartment, but I purchased a 3 bed lock off because it can be split into a studio, and a 2 bedroom apartment. If I decide to lock off, I can stay for one week in the studio, and for a second week in the 2 bedroom apartment, getting two weeks instead of one.

The fees are payable every other year (EOY) not every year. Even so, I can still take holidays every year, either in the studio or the 2-bed apartment, or by being a member of Interval International exchange company, I can use their cheap getaways to stay in any resort or hotel throughout the world. Through Interval, I can swap my home resort for a different resort or I can rent my apartment out and obtain a rental income of approximately £3000 in high season.

The studio or third bedroom has twin beds, a kitchenette, a bathroom, its own balcony, and a dining area. The master bedroom has a full bathroom, king sized bed, a balcony view over the botanical gardens, safe, and quality furniture. The twin bedded room has an en-suite bathroom and quality furniture. All rooms have a flat a screen TV. Off the lounge there is a large balcony overlooking palm trees and exotic plants where parrots fly, and the lounge itself is very comfortable with a three piece suite (the sofa is a sofa bed), tables, lamps, a dining table and quality furniture. Inside the large wardrobes there are foldaway cots, complimentary robes and slippers, beach towels and bathing towels. The apartment has a full kitchen with all appliances and dishwasher. A separate utility room contains a washing machine and a dryer. There is no charge for air conditioning or heating or for daily maid service. Towels and bed linen are changed as often as requested.

The on-site facilities are too numerous to list, but include outdoor pools -one topless, one for aerobics, one for children, gym, sauna, indoor pool with 4 large jacuzzi's set at different temperatures: hot, cold, body-temperature. Restaurant and al fresco dining, beach, palm trees and gardens, daily entertainment programme and classes, and many children's clubs for toddlers, youngsters, and teenagers with electronic gaming. The resort is surrounded by golf clubs. VIP passes and discount cards are available from reception. In the locality there are many white villages to visit either by bus or car/care hire, Estepona shopping town and harbour are close by with its oranges and lemons and quaint squares and long beaches, and Gibraltar, Cadiz and the ferry to North Africa are just a short drive or bus ride.

A bus and coach can provide an inexpensive trip to Rhonda in the mountains, or the resort offers tours and activities and car hire. Parking is free. The site has key access to the beach and 24 hour manned gated entry, although I never experienced any security issues. Outside the resort there are quiet, modern residential areas with tree lined streets and fountains, restaurants, and bus stops east and west. A nature reserve is next door, and a large hotel sits in acres of palm trees on the other side.

You can fly to Malaga or Gibraltar. The site has a shop/supermarket and outdoor games areas. The Marriott Marbella site is in Elvira and is set well back from the road. Playa Andaluza has easy access to the road network and to bus services, linking the resort to nearby Puerto Banus, to supermarkets, shopping malls and to Marbella and Malaga.

Timeshare owners receive a 30% discount from Hertz rent a car. Before going to the resort you specify which apartment block, floor and view you prefer, and if you want feather bedding or non-allergenic bedding and any special requests. I like a garden view with side sea view on first floor. This apartment is a floating week(s) for use in the gold period, and weeks can be taken in parts of February (already a warm 70 degrees) in March and April, May, June, August- November and Christmas and New Year. The area is flat and well suited to wheelchair access.
