The resort is at the Royal Savoy Hotel based in Funchal, Madeira. The distance from Funchal is about 35-40 miles from Funchal airport (takes about 30-40 minutes by taxi). I purchased the property through Interval International who offer exchanges etc throughout the world and produce an annual brochure with all available properties/exchanges. The onsite facilities include swimming pools, sauna and gym. There are three restaurants available on site. The last time we were there was Dec 2010 and the original Royal Savoy was about to undergo major refurbishment. Unfortunately due to my wife's failing health and subsequent death in 2012, I have not been back since and do not know how far this refurbishment has progressed.

The studio apartment is on the second floor with a balcony overlooking the pool and the sea beyond. There is direct access to the sea from the pool complex. There are beaches along the coast at Camara de Lobos.The apartment consists of a bedroom with double bed, ensuite bathroom and dining/living area with a galley kitchen with cooker, fridge and all utensils. There is T.V. and DVD player. DVD's can be hired from the hotel. There was car parking within the Royal Savoy hotel but am not sure what there will be now.

The area has much to offer. There is golf and tennis available locally. Many varied walks, including levadas ( which are basically drainage channels ). There are the famous botanical gardens and the Blandy's Madeira Wine company who offer tours around their plant in Funchal. For the more adventurous there is the opportunity to ride the basket toboggan run or cable car in Funchal. My week (week 50) is the week before Christmas. So with the splendid display of Christmas lights, Christmas markets and other seasonal entertainment, plus incoming cruise ships it is a very interesting and lively time to visit Madeira. I went in 2008-2010 and the weather was mid to upper 60 degrees Centigrade with a couple of slightly cloudy/dull days each year, very pleasant for getting around.
