The Royal Savoy is a five star rated resort situated in one of the most convenient parts of the island of Madeira and a twenty minute drive from the airport. The town of Funchal is a comfortable ten minutes walk from the resort, or if you prefer to travel by bus, the buses are frequent and the bus stops are only a five minute walk away from the resort entrance.

The main building is in a crescent shape with the first floor at sea level, and the studio apartment is on level five, three floors below the ground level. The apartment can be approached via one of two lifts and has the benefit of being the end apartment t on that floor. Upon entering the accommodation, the bathroom; complete with a show and bath is to the right-hand -side. Pass the bathroom and one enters the main sleeping area with one double-bed and a double wardrobe. The kitchen cum dining area also contains a convertible couch-put-you-up-suitable for two small persons. Included in the suitably equipped work are a dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and electric hob. The temperature of the apartment is controlled internally by an air-conditioning unit. The balcony is one of the longest within the resort and is kissed by the sun all day, and because there isn't another apartment adjacent to, it ends in a pleasant small garden. From the garden end, the cruise ships can clearly be seen entering and leaving the harbour. To the right of the harbour and touching the grounds of the hotel is the Atlantic Ocean where it is possible, and desirable to swim. If swimming in the sea isn't to your liking, then there is the use of three swimming pools within the resort, or if you prefer you can work-out in the fitness room.

The number of restaurants in the resort varies occasionally, but there are usually three offering a high standard of service. So after spending the day sightseeing, touring around the island, or simply lazing by the pool, there is the occasional evening's entertainment for you to enjoy. There are also two poolside bars where light lunches can be purchased; but perhaps you would rather have a room service, that too is available.

Many of the roads have been up-graded, and several new ones tunnelling through the mountains have been added. Those improvements have made the journeys safer and reduced the travelling times. Bus companies are slowly renewing their fleet; and several years ago the swipe-card payment system, and modern route maps made their interpretation easier.
