Nearest town is Funchal about 15 minutes walk, 5 minutes by bus.  Distance from airport approx. 19 km.  Bus stop outside Miramar, including airport bus.  Frequent local buses.  Plenty of taxis available just outside.  Car parking available.  A good spot for getting about.

Miramar shares a site with Pestana Village, with an outdoor swimming pool in each, and one indoor swimming pool.  Plenty of sunbeds in the gardens as well as around the pool areas.  There is a gym, sauna, whirlpool, and games room, and restaurants on site with differing menus.  The large gardens are beautiful, full of unusual trees and flowers.  Plenty of lifts available.  There is a library in each resort.  Staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

Just outside the Miramar is a small supermarket, along with a few restaurants.  The nearest large supermarket is about 10 minutes walk away.  There are many good restaurants in the locality, of varying prices, and with varied cuisine.  There is a very pretty little park on the walk into Funchal, with great views over the town and harbour.  In Funchal there are lots of things to see and do, with fruit/fish/flower market, cable car, many shops, cathedral, theatre, and of course bars and restaurants.  The old town is very interesting.
