Madeira’s sunny south coast is home to the Enotal Lido Resort Conference Centre and Spa. Previously the Tivoli Madeira, this luxury property offers modern, stylish accommodations with a host of facilities in a friendly coastal ambience within walking distance of Funchal town.

Timeshare rooms and suites here are comfortable, spacious and modern, with warm, wooden furniture and walls decorated with works of art in the contemporary style. For a peaceful night’s sleep, all the rooms are soundproofed, and wheelchair-accessible accommodation as well as hypo-allergenic bed linen can be had on request.

The apartments are divided into deluxe or superior studios and junior or tower suites, sleeping between two and four persons. Standard amenities include cable TV with movie channels, air-conditioning, en-suite facilities with separate bathtubs and showers and room service.

The deluxe studios offer furnished balconies with ocean or poolside views, and the contemporary superior studios offer more spacious accommodation and part-sea views for the balconies. Junior suites boast separate bedrooms and living spaces, and the terraces with their spectacular ocean vistas are furnished with sun loungers and shady umbrellas.

The top-of-the-range, luxurious Tower suites have the most spacious accommodation, with en-suites equipped with whirlpool baths and a kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator and stovetop hob. There’s a large, furnished balcony with excellent ocean views.

Foodies will love the choice of four restaurants, with the Atlantico offering a great breakfast to start your day as well as a dinner menu every evening. For an exotic evening, Kai Japanese Restaurant specialises in sushi and teppanyaki, and the true taste of traditional Madeiran cuisine is had at O Bailinho. For Italian favourites, Vela di Canale serves snacks, light lunches and a la carte Mediterranean dishes.

Relaxing, fun, evenings here start in the resort’s Sports Bar or Perola lobby bar, and the Disco Theatre and Moonlight Bar offer themed nights and evening entertainment. Nearby Funchal, with its charming Old Quarter and historic Portuguese architecture, makes for a pleasant evening people watching, dining or lazing in its attractive bars and small eateries.

A day exploring the town or several games at the Palheiro Golf Course on the edge of town are highlights, as is a ride on the cable car from the town to the high point of Monte with its breathtaking views, palace gardens and pretty church. For a real thrill, take a paragliding trip across the island’s stunning scenery.
