There are two swimming pools on the grounds which are a big hit, along with extensive palm gardens and paths that lead off for cliff walks. It’s the perfect relaxing environment any time of year owing to the Algarve’s enviable climate, even in winter, and is especially fine for those with kids owing to the large range of leisure activities on hand.

Pestana Hotel Viking is not far from the centre of Armação de Pêra, which has become somewhat of a relaxing side attraction from nearby Albufeira for the more discerning guest. There are miles of beaches and some fabulous cliff walks all the way west to the bustling resort town of Portimão.

You’ll find the quaint fishing village centre at the eastern end, noted for its 17th century fort and old houses. This is the area to be for quaint shopping and eating amid the network of tight, cobbled alleys. Silves is easily reached from here and Faro International Airport is about 40 minutes by shuttle or taxi.
