Monkey Valley is a secluded seaside resort situated 45 minutes south of Cape Town by car, yet seemingly worlds away from South Africa's secondmost populous city. Milkwood forest grows around these thatched self-catering cottages at the foot of Chapman's Peak Drive.
Guests on short-term stays may prefer the bed and breakfast suites, each of which has its own unique character, but all of which contain fireplaces and private decks facing the beach. Each bed and breakfast suite also contains a refrigerator, television, and station for making tea and coffee.
The thatched self-catering lodges feature farmhouse kitchens with dishwashers, dining rooms, outside showers, stone fireplaces, and private braai areas. The resort's uppermost point contains the Crowned Eagle Premier Suites, where poles carved by artisans from Malawi hold up the expansive wooden decks.
Thorfynn’s Restaurant serves hearty farmhouse breakfasts in the morning and live music with its evening sunset meals. Diners can observe seabirds, whales, and flamingos frolic on the beach as they enjoy their meals. A tree grows in the middle of the charming treetop pub.
Guests have several pathways to choose from as they walk between the beach and this popular conference and wedding venue. The surrounding area can be explored during a two-hour horseback riding tour or the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive. Timeshare owners can also board boats to Seal Island or browse through the more than 100 arts and crafts stalls at the Hout Bay Harbour market.
