A lovely beach along Lake Balaton's northern shore lies just a leisurely stroll away from Holiday Club Fured, where guests can work on their suntans from a fourth floor rooftop terrace overlooking the picturesque Hungarian community of Balatonfüred.
Guests can reserve one of the available 26 air-conditioned apartments by acquiring a timeshare unit. All of these spacious one and two bedroom units boast Lake Balaton views along with cable televisions, kitchen facilities, and coffee makers.
A backyard swimming pool stands alongside a couple of saunas and a steam room in the wellness area. Although a small fee is required to use the parking facilities near the building and garden, advance reservations are not necessary. Extra fees are also charged for pets and access to the internet corner adjacent to the front desk. A designated area is set aside for smokers on this otherwise smoke-free property.
This establishment has no on-site restaurant of its own, but is conveniently situated within walking distance of several high quality places to eat in Balatonfüred. However, many believe cycling is the best way to explore this popular Hungarian holiday retreat, and bicycle rentals can easily be arranged with Holiday Club Fured staff. English signage is prominently displayed throughout the town.
Despite Balatonfüred's status as the third largest community on Lake Balaton's shores, it manages to maintain a small town atmosphere. The community's elegant old town provides a dramatic contrast to the far more modern and sophisticated lakeside new town. Trees grow along the many cycling and walking paths found here.
Balatonfüred is also famous as Lake Balaton's yachting capital. Although visitors can rent sailboats or paddle boats, motorboats and jet skis are strictly prohibited on the lake. Gyógy Square's Lajos Kossuth Spring is one of the best places to sample the town's ‘sour water’.
The town's hilly surroundings are loaded with vineyards, picnic spots, and places to enjoy beautiful Tihany Peninsula views. The annual August wine tasting festival is among the busiest times of year for Holiday Club Fured, whose TripAdvisor ratings average four stars.
The nearest major airports are Hévíz-Balaton Airport, which only handles a handful of summer seasonal flights, and the much larger Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Visitors can also reach Balatonfüred by train from Budapest's Déli Railway Station. The Balatonfüred port stands in the middle of the new town.
