It serves the St Johann-Alpendorf ski area; the ski lift here is walkable and links up with others in the region.

Well received on review site TripAdvisor for its spotless units, hot water, housekeeping staff and proximity to the centre of town, St Johann Alpenland is always busy. The semi-elegant units number 134 and feature nice little touches, like bathrobes, balcony and free WiFi internet.

You can have breakfast in-room or head down to the restaurants. Also nearby is a supermarket and mini-mall and there is a slew of sporting facilities on site. The heated indoor swimming pool is good for laps and there are two hard-court tennis courts on the grounds, together with an excellent sauna and fitness suite.

The St Johann-Alpendorf area is today a part of the larger Ski Amadé region that encompasses the states of both Salzburg and Styria, comprising 760kms of fabulous slopes to altitudes of 2,700m. There are hundreds of runs and ski lifts, including those of the Bad Gastein region to the south. You can even glacier ski right into the summer atop the Dachstein Glacier.

Many of the ski lifts of this fine region are also open in the summer months, which is a real boon for keen hikers wanting to access higher parts quickly. Thus the St Johann Alpenland Resort-Sport Hotel is as much a skier’s timeshare option as it is a non-skier’s. Even if you’re not really into to any of these activities, the region is beautiful in itself and can be appreciated right from the town, which is easily walkable.
