Our aparment at The Royal Savoy has played an important part in my life for such a long time. Week ten, always much anticipated, could not come soon enough. No more wearing winter clothes but breakfast on the balcony gazing at the sea, lazy lunches by the pool, sunbathing in the rocky coves as close to the water's edge as possible, a chocolate on my bed each night filled my mind, helping me to survive the cold, dreary days of winter.

My 'home from home' is ideally situated on the first floor and is well equipped. Access to the outside is by the beautiful spiral, marble staircase nearby. Walk along the passage to the health spa, sauna, gym and indoor swimming pool which has an aquarobics class each Wednesday. The view from the mezzanine with it's old, hollowed out log boats, creates a lovely scene and the library, computer and extensive lounge/seating areas are all close by, as are the lifts. The art work and artefacts, notably from Africa, provides richness and so many focal points of interest throughout the hotel.

The Royal Savoy exudes peace and calm, never feeling crowded or noisy. It is ideally placed to walk along the promenade and into town. The bridge over the road leads to the 'old' Savoy gardens and onto a lovely hidden street with a plethora of restaurants and very convenient small shops including a mini-supermarket. One can also access the Savoy Palace with its infinity pool area and Sunday afternoon teas. Go through 'the Palace' and it is easy to reach the main road which travels westwards from Funchal served by plenty of buses which are quite an experience in themselves!

My Royal Savoy holidays have given me a multitude of experiences and I have memories which I shall always treasure. I shall miss you!

Wining and dining here as an absolute pleasure with the Armada restaurant offering both Á la carte and buffet dining whilst the Piano bar is a great place to enjoy a cocktail and some quality nightly entertainment.

Out and about the garden island of Madeira offers up some great sightseeing and experiences. Take a dip in the Lava pools, sleigh ride down the steep streets of Funchal in a wicker toboggan and visit the tropical gardens of Monte Palace. For the more adventurous a trek to Pico Ruivo delivers stunning views of the volcanic landscape.
