We visited the Hilton Hotel at Vilamoura, Portugal in 2008 and instantly fell in love with it, buying into their Grand Vacation Club which had just been launched there. We have a platinum week, which means we can go any time of the year we choose, but our own preference is for September, when we have hot and sunny weather without it being overbearing and it is out of school holidays.

We have been out there every year for the last 10 years and are only selling because of retirement and a change in circumstances. The timeshare lease runs until 2041. It is a fantastic base for whatever type of holiday you enjoy.

The complex has 7 swimming pools and a fabulous spa with free use of facilities for Vacation Club owners. There is a minibus service that runs throughout the day to the beach a few minutes away in season, where the Vacation Club has a beach concession and bar. The bus also runs into Vilamoura harbour during the day and evening where there is a huge choice of restaurants, bars, and shops to suit all tastes. Opposite the Hilton is the Pinhal golf course, and there are many more golf courses in the immediate area. We have enjoyed exploring further afield as well including the beautiful Ria Formosa Lagoon near Faro, Portim�o and Sagres, and visited vineyards, markets, and pretty hillside villages. Food in that area is fabulous, there is so much whether you eat in or out.

The one-bedroom apartment has plenty of space with a second toilet as well as the luxurious bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, spacious balconies, and free car parking. There is a discount on food and drink bought in the Hotel, and often there is entertainment on. Car parking is free and there is a supermarket 5 minute's walk away. We are really going to miss it!
