We have been holidaying at Craigendarroch for more than 30 years, but personal circumstances mean that we have reluctantly taken the decision to sell our week at this wonderful resort, which is the subject of ongoing investment by Hilton International Grand Vacations Club (HIGVC) and the owners committee. Craigendarroch, situated in the delightful village of Ballater provides a fantastic base for exploring the Cairngorms National Park and further afield:

• Walking opportunities are boundless, from the high peaks of the Cairngorms (our favourite is Lochnagar) to gentle strolls at Loch Muick, Glen Tanar and the Linn of Dee.

• Bring your bikes. There are lots of off road and on road routes to choose from (quieter roads are easy to find; another favourite is the 8-mile cycle ride to Balmoral). If cycling is not adventurous enough then horse riding, salmon fishing, clay pigeon shooting, and quad biking can be found nearby.

• Ballater has a beautiful golf course, or for something completely different play the highest course in the UK at Braemar (a 20-minute drive).

• The Banffshire coast is less than 2 hours from Craigendarroch and provides some excellent beach and cliff walking.

• On the occasional rainy day (yes really!) the 2 swimming pools, gym and squash courts in the clubhouse provide great exercise opportunities, followed by a well-earned recovery in the bar and the excellent Keiller Grill.

• The lively city of Aberdeen (complete with international airport) is an hour from Craigendarroch. To soak up the arts head to Inverness.

• Ballater has some wonderful restaurants including one of the best Indian's we have ever tried (India on the Green). The Rothesay Rooms (part of a charity outreach programme of HRH Prince Charles) serves excellent food, and for a great steak or seafood head to the Clachan Grill. Further afield is the wonderful Cowshed restaurant in the delightful town of Banchory, an easy 25-minute drive. Alternatively create your own dinner in the well-equipped kitchen in the lodge - buy your provisions from the Queen's butcher and baker.

Our fixed timeshare week falls at the end of June (although swaps within the resort can be arranged, or weeks at Craigendarroch can be exchanged worldwide within HIGVC). It is a delightful time to visit the area. Falling just before the school holidays means that the area is quieter, the prolific rhododendrons are still in flower and best of all, the midsummer days are very long (it doesn't really get dark). And with luck, the heather may be flowering early.

Our lodge, a self-contained two storey detached building, sleeps 8, has three ultra-modern bathrooms (one with a sauna) and a huge lounge and dining room. Leading off the lounge is a big veranda overlooking the pond and the lodge is well screened from other units. There is dedicated parking for 2 cars outside the lodge, with overflow parking very nearby.
