Seller's Description*
The Underscar cottages and apartments, which have a ‘Visit England’ 5-star rating, are just north of Keswick, in Cumbria, in the English Lake District, about 2 hours drive from Manchester and Liverpool airports, and 20 minute’s drive from the M6 motorway and main line rail station at Penrith. They were built in the early 2000s by the owners of the adjacent hotel (now a private residence), and have been maintained to a very high standard, with regular updating of furniture, fittings, and decoration, and have free Wi-Fi connection. The development commands views across Keswick, Derwentwater and the mountains to the south.
There are a total of 25 stone cottages and apartments, set out in two rows, divided by gardens and water features. Owners also have access to the woodland adjacent to the development. A private car park has a designated space for each cottage, with additional parking for guests available in the main car park.
The main building contains:
• Reception, manned throughout the day.
• Bistro and Bar.
• Swimming pool, with sauna and jacuzzi.
• Gym
• Health & Beauty Studio.
We purchased this timeshare week in 2001. We own another timeshare week, and with our family now grown up, wish to dispose of one week. The two-storey cottage is on the front row of cottages, has 2 bedrooms, sleeps 6, and consists of:
First floor
• Living area, with two sofas, an armchair, a wall unit containing flat screen TV, DVD player and Sonos sound system, and a landline telephone. It has views towards the lake and mountains, although note that a stone tower associated with the original house, slightly limits the view. This area is separated by shelf units from the dining area.
• Dining area, with table and 6 chairs. A recess next to this area contains a coffee table/storage chest and a double sofa bed.
• Kitchen containing halogen hob, double oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, and a full range of kitchen equipment.
• Balcony, with wooden table and 4 chairs, looking towards the lake and mountains.
Ground floor
• Small outer hall, with coat and shoe racks, and drying and storage cupboards.
• Inner hall, with under stairs cupboard containing central heating controls.
• Front bedroom, with 2 single beds and wardrobe/cupboards.
• Main bathroom, with WC, basin, shower/steam room and underfloor heating.
• Rear bedroom with king-size bed and wardrobe/cupboard unit, which contains a flat screen TV.
• En-suite bathroom to rear bedroom, with WC, basin, large bath, and underfloor heating.
The occupation period for this cottage is week 11 (mid-March) from Sunday to Sunday.
The management fee for each week covers cleaning, the provision of bed linen, towels, soap, laundry, and dishwasher powders etc. Electricity and gas are payable in addition, billed shortly after occupation. Extra bed linen can be ordered for a change of guests at a small extra charge.
There is a maintenance team on site to deal with minor repairs, advice on operation of equipment etc.
If an owner does not wish to use a week, it can be rented out, either privately or through the management company. Underscar is also a member of the Dial an Exchange global timeshare exchange programme.
The nearby market town of Keswick has a wide range of shops, restaurants, and pubs, as well as a theatre and cinema. It is on the northern shore of Derwentwater, and sailing, rowing and motor boat hire is available. In addition, the ‘Keswick Launch’ has regular services taking visitors to several points around the lake.
Keswick is well situated for exploring the many attractions of the Lake District, particularly for those who like outdoor pursuits such as walking, climbing or mountain biking. On a main road to the south are Grasmere, home of the Wordsworth museum and a little further, Ambleside, on the north shore of Lake Windermere. A drive along the east shore of Derwentwater takes you through the Borrowdale valley and over the Honister Pass to Buttermere. The cathedral city of Carlisle is about 50 minute’s drive to the north.
