March is a beautiful time to go to Scotland, the trees have not yet put on leaves so the views are far more extensive than in late spring/summer, the climate is great for walkers of all abilities, and in some locations, you will meet very few people making it extra special as the stillness echoes the noises of nature. Every year the weather is different and we have experienced light dusting of snow through to the unexpected heatwave in March 2012, but generally it has been mild for us and thankfully midge free! There are plenty of walks nearby, including our favourites, trekking up Ben Lomond itself, The Cobbler,Ballock Castle Country Park, or just a walk around the Carrick estate if you don’t want to wander far. Cyclists can make use of the west Loch Lomond cycle path. It is also ideally situated to explore the Trossachs National Park with its woodland walks, waterfalls and deer. We have taken day trips to Glasgow and Edinburgh, using the train station at nearby Balloch(free parking outside the station) as our starting point to avoid the hassle of driving and parking especially in Edinburgh. The lodge week we own is part of the replica farmhouse and courtyard built to replace the earlier Auchentulloch farm. This is an extremely large and spacious 3-bedroom accommodation that takes luxury to the next level. One bedroom and bathroom is on the ground floor, suitable for those with limited mobility, though the property is not wheelchair adapted. There is a fully equipped kitchen with a welcome addition of a Tassimo pod coffee machine (take extra pods) along with the usual white kitchen appliances. The dining area seats 8 people, the lounge leads onto a patio offering breath-taking views over the loch along with some spectacular sunrises. The remaining 2 bedrooms are on the first floor; the master has a super king size bed and a feature bath and shower. The second bedroom is a twin with its own ensuite all generously proportioned. The resort boasts a luxurious spa with a roof top infinity pool overlooking the mansion house and in the distance Ben Lomond as well as an indoor swimming pool.In addition, there is a fully equipped gym, tennis courts, a golf driving range, and practice areas for the short game and putting, along with a golf pro shop with PGA qualified staff. And of course, there is the well-maintained Carrick’s Championship golf course for all golfers to enjoy. This week is out of term time, but if travelling with children, they and you will have access to all the additional facilities in Cameron house.A free shuttle service will take you to and from the nearby Cameron House Resort (2 miles) with access to 2 more swimming pools including one for children with a water slide. They also have squash courts, a snooker room, three restaurants, and the wee demon 9-hole golf course. It is with regret that we have had to offer our apartment for sale due to circumstances that now makes travelling difficult for us (around trip of 905 miles). We are willing to negotiate on the purchase price.
