Set in a 1000 acre estate in glorious countryside, the Slaley Hall resort has two 18 hole championship golf courses and plenty of adventure facilities, in addition to which owners have the use of the hotel restaurant and bar facilities, the spa including swimming pool, gym, beauty treatments, some of which may incur charges.  If going for long walks is your desire there is plenty of variety around the lovely estate and beyond.

The lodge is situated in a beautifully elevated position.  Stand at the window in the huge, comfortably furnished lounge or on its spacious balcony and you can see for miles across the beautiful Northumbrian countryside.  The lounge has a top-range television with Sky available and DVD and CD players.  A large dining area is adjacent to a spacious, modern kitchen, which boasts an electric ceramic hob and full size electric oven, microwave oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer.  There are three double bedrooms, two of which are en-suite and a magnificent bathroom with Jacuzzi and sauna.  The lodge is superbly equipped throughout with high-quality fittings, crockery and glassware.  All bedding and towels are supplied, including two fluffy white bathrobes in the master bedroom.  Outside there is a golf buggy allocated to the lodge for use on the estate at no extra cost and parking space for three cars.

Slaley, Hexham and Corbridge form a triangle of approximately five-mile sides.  Hexham is a pleasant town, has a variety of supermarkets and smaller shops and has lots of history.  Corbridge is a small town of entirely different character.  Its Roman Fort, ancient church, Pele Tower and old bridge over the beautiful River Tyne and quality small shops rather than supermarkets and retail parks, tea rooms and so on gives it an old- world charm.  Although a bit further afield, Hadrian’s Wall, Durham Cathedral, Alnwick Castle, the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne are all very accessible.  The Northumbrian coast, with its beautiful white sands is in easy driving distance and Newcastle airport is only thirty minutes drive.

Our week is in mid-November, which we have thoroughly enjoyed for twelve years.  Ideal for sheer relaxation in the lead-up to Christmas, it also offers the opportunity to get that Christmas shopping done, with the options of the city-centre in Newcastle, the huge Metro Centre in Gateshead or the variety of the lovely market town of Hexham.  Due to business commitments we are no longer able to enjoy what has been our favourite week of the year, which we will miss enormously.
